1. Re-activating Sigma Pi Sigma chapters

  • ongoing information-gathering study in zone 18, 10 to reactivate chapters
    • interest high, moderate success, let's keep going for a year
  • expand to zone 4
  • seed activities to start new chapters
    • multi-institution inductions (students from school with no chapter inducted into a chapter at a nearby institution)
      • does this require a change in the Sigma PI Sigma constitution?
    • combined schools induction (shared students over multiple departments)
      • precidence exists, find out where
    • Congress 2008 would be an ideal place to try this (Chicago area institutions)

2. Member involvement

  • Sigma Pi Sigma members as SPEAKERS
    • at induction ceremonies
    • at SPS seminars (highlighting non-traditional career paths)
  • current Sigma Pi Sigma chapter activities
  • current SPS activities (there are a lot more of these)
  • involve graduate students in Sigma Pi Sigma events or starting new chapters
    • this could spur new chapters at large universities that have no or inactive chapters
      • example: a student is inducted as a senior at College X. Goes to graduate school at University Y, which has an inactive or no Sigma Pi Sigma chapter. This student and others like her decide to start or reactivate the Sigma Pi Sigma chapter (maybe even transfer their Sigma PI Sigma membership to their graduate institution).

3. Chapter Award promotion

  • get the word out (emails to Sigma PI Sigma advisors)
  • staggering award application deadlines (Oct. 15, Nov. 1, Nov. 15)
  • "Attention Box" on website

4. Please induct faculty at your institution!!!!!

Timeline

1. pilot study continues through this academic year

2. ask each chapter to invite at least one Sigma Pi Sigma seminar speaker this year. We are asking this right now!

3. emails will be sent by SPS director before November 15

4. induct your faculty members NOW
